A CALDICOT School celebrated British Science Week last week by setting off rockets and making balloon powered cars.

Ysgol Gymraeg y Ffin pupils spent last week looking at scientific changes, including energy, advances in treating cancer, writing code for computers, chemistry and environmental change.

The school saw speakers from Cancer Research UK, Gwent Wildlife Trust and a local STEM ambassador visit the school to deliver sessions.

The week saw the youngest students making balloon powered cars, investigating camouflage, making potato and lemon batteries, coding a short animation and exploring reactions. And older students created a racing car computer game, debated the impact of new roads through important habitat and sent film canister rockets into the sky.

Jamie Hallett, headteacher, said: “The school community has worked together to bring the children a wide range of experiences and enhance their learning and horizons.”
