A MAN who hasn’t had his haircut in 14 years will finally go to the barbers in aid of comic relief.

Ed Newton, from Pontypool, says he received years of ‘banter’ from work colleagues about his hair, saying: “About a month ago I decided to get it cut for Comic Relief, if only to shut them up. Everyone at work can’t wait.”

The 46 year old said he isn’t as nervous as he’d originally thought about the whole thing adding: “When I see how much money people are pledging, it really makes it all worth it.”

Ed has hit his target of £1,000 and hopes to raise a few hundred more before Friday, when the locks finally get cut off.

“I’ve always watched Comic Relief on TV and it’s hard not to be moved by what we see. The fact that Comic Relief focuses on so many areas, both at home and abroad, and has a positive impact on so many issues is a wonderful thing.

“I’m looking forward to it, my only concern is that my cats won’t recognise me when I walk into the house without my hair. I think I might also need to dig out a woolly hat and scarf.”
