TWENTY-TWO alternative proposals have been submitted to the Welsh Government as part of the plans for the M4 relief road.

Following the launch of the M4 corridor around Newport local public inquiry last month, which is expected to run up until July, a public notice has confirmed the number of different plans put forward by objectors.

The notice also contains descriptions of the land which are set for compulsory purchase in the Monmouthshire communities of Magor and Undy.

The objectors’ suggested alternatives routes are:

•One – blue route – improvements to the Newport A48 Southern Distributor Route and A4810 between M4 junction 28 and 23A, including the link to 24.

•Two – blue route phase one – improvements to the Newport A48 Southern Distributor Route and A4810 between M4 junction 28 and 23A only.

•Three – green route – west of Wilcrick route and M48 and B4245 connection.

•Four – north and west of Wilcrick route.

•Five – move part of junction 23 between Rogiet and Caldicot.

•Six – M48 and B4245 and Severn Tunnel Junction station connection.

•Seven – direct access to Severn Tunnel Junction station from junction 23.

•Eight to 11 – Connections to junction 23A.

•12 – move main alignment south at Meadows Road.

•13-16 – northern dock routes one to four.

•17 – remove Docks Way junction and link

•18 – free flow junction 23 and connection at junction 23A – 2006 TR111 route

A brochure, which contains plans regarded the suggested alternatives, will be on display in Monmouthshire – Usk’s County Hall and Innovation House in Magor – and Newport – the civic centre and central library – as well as the Lysaght Institute.

It is also visible at the Welsh Government Offices in Cardiff’s Cathays Park.
