GWENT was out in force to support Comic Relief on Red Nose Day with a range of fundraising efforts taking place across the region.

In Chepstow, pupils at Dell Primary School dressed up and were able to buy red noses for £1. They also made a donation for dressing up and, in total, the school raised £431.67 for Comic Relief.

In Newport, Gaer Primary School organised a bouncy castle and had characters visiting the school.

The children were able to dress with their own clothes for the day and wear Red Nose Day items. The school hasn’t counted the money raised yet.

Nine members of staff from Aneurin Leisure in Ebbw Vale also got involved, running 30 miles across Blaenau Gwent to raise money for Comic Relief.

The team set off from Ebbw Vale, moving on to Abertillery, Brynmawr, then Tredegar, before rounding off the run at Ebbw Vale Sports Centre.

Groups of people joined the runners for stretches of the route.

Leading the run were chief organisers Tom Kivell, 27 and David Williams, 30.

Mr Kivell said: “To me fundraising is a big part of my life and I like to challenge myself and put myself through a little bit of pain to raise as much money as I can for charity.

“We regularly support Comic Relief, with one of our members David Williams cycling 150 miles for the charity last time.

“We feel the work Comic Relief does is amazing .

“If we can raise just a bit towards that it will be a valuable step in the right direction.”

Torfaen Training also celebrated Red Nose Day, holding cake sales and a number of competitions. Among others, staff at Abergavenny Leisure Centre had a bake sale raising more than £100 for Comic Relief.
