A REFURBISHMENT project to improve a Torfaen council building is due to end shortly.

A revamp of the Civic Centre in Pontypool is currently taking place to create an improved customer care area, and enhancements to its security.

The works, which started earlier this month, have seen the creation of a new customer express desk to enable inquiries to be dealt with faster, and more self service areas, including a payment kiosk and an area for people to drop in and collect recycling boxes, bags and food caddies.

The new security measures include controlled access for staff and visitors through a turnstile system.

Councillor Gwyneira Clark, executive member for housing, planning and public protection said: “We’ve had very positive response to the improvements and the ability to simply pop in and pick up new recycling containers, bags and boxes is proving extremely popular.

“We expect the works to be completed by the end of March and look forward to providing a much improved experience for customers, visitors and staff.”
