A GALLERY showcasing international art photography will unveil a new exhibition today exploring May Day traditions.

The new exhibition is held in conjunction with the Kickplate Project’s 76m² gallery in Pontypool and arts festival madeinroath.

The show, which runs between April 25 and May 13, contains elements of performance, drawing upon the rites of spring, International Workers’ Day and May Day traditions.

The site-specific installation will take place at the gallery in the former Plaid Cymru offices in 2 Portland Buildings, Commercial Street and is created by madeinroath artists Gail Howard and Helen Clifford.

To promote the exhibition, the pair also walked through Pontypool in costumes which “attracted a lot of attention”, according to artist Zosia Krasnowolska, of the Kickplate Project.

She added: “ We wanted to show our visitors something different this time and we’ve always admired the work that madeinroath are doing in Cardiff, so we’re very excited to have them in 76m²”.

The Kickplate Project will host another six exhibitions this year and the gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday between 11am and 6pm.
