A RAMBLERS group from Pontypool will celebrate their 50-year milestone this weekend with a walking event.

The Pontypool and District Ramblers Group was founded on May 4, 1967, and to mark their history, the group have announced several events.

This includes a celebratory dinner for current and past group members and a walk on May 20 to celebrate half a century since the group’s first walk.

The event will start the Memorial Clock in Pontypool Park and will be attended by the Mayor of Torfaen.

A third event, marking the anniversary, will include a published booklet ‘Walks in and around Torfaen’.

These routes cover the core walking area of the Pontypool group and “have all given considerable enjoyment to members over the last 50 years”, a spokesman said.

Copies of the booklet, priced at £4.95 plus postage and packaging, can be bought by contacting the group’s walks officer on 01873890270.

The Pontypool group hold regular walks at weekends and during the week with the majority of walks talking place in Brecon Beacons National Park.

The group also wander further afield with walks in the Mid and Lower Wye Valley.
