TWO weeks after an invitation to sing at a wedding, the Chepstow Male Voice Choir were back in the familiar venue of St. Nicholas’ Church in Trellech to perform in a concert, raising funds for the church fabric. The very popular Vicar, Sandra Howells welcomed us once more to sing in this beautiful church, where for anyone performing, has wonderful acoustics.

A very special guest also, was the harpist Charlotte Poulter, whom, she had told me had made the long journey from just outside the lychgate, up the path and into the church. She lives next door.

Charlotte played in two sections of the concert and gave us all a reminder of how the beautiful sounds and tone of a concert harp are, not to mention when it is played with such skill and sensitivity. The programme she chose showed off her versatility, and my particular favourite was Bugeilior Gwenith Gwyn (Watching the Wheat), the famous folk song, with a haunting arrangement for the harp.

The choir sang well and featured for the first time a couple of new songs which drew a nice reaction from the audience. Sandra thanked the choir and Charlotte for their contributions, and even stood us pint each, across the road in The Lion pub, where Debbie the Landlady was delighted to see us once again.

Pity there isn’t a bit more room in the pub, as we could have our rehearsals in there.

On Saturday, June 17, at 7pm we will be having our Annual Summer Concert at St Mary’s Priory Church in Chepstow when our very special guests will be Vox in Frox, an all-female Chamber Choir who wowed us all last year, so much so that we were asked if we could invite them again. Tickets are £10 for this concert and are available from Chepstow Leisure Centre, Herbert Lewis Department store and choristers. Any difficulties obtaining tickets, call our concert manager Ian Crow 01291 624012.
