MUSICIANS and biker clubs came out in force this at the weekend to help support a campaign to help fund a disabled child’s operation in the USA.

Earlier this year, Jessica Hope, of Garndiffaith, launched the Lincoln’s Leg’s appeal to help raise £100,000 for her four-year-old son, Lincoln, who has cerebral palsy.

Lincoln’s proposed operation, spinal dorsal rhizotomy, aims to remove spasticity and would be followed by years of physiotherapy to improve muscle strength. Without it, he would be likely to spend his life in a wheelchair.

So far, the appeal has raised over more than £4,000 with several businesses and organisations from Torfaen getting involved and showing their support for the Hope family.

On Friday, Pontypool music venue, The Dragonffli held a mini music festival ‘Walk’ and raised around £200 towards the fund.

Lincoln also attended the event and met some of the bands playing on the night.

Venue owner and Pontypool Community Council’s chairman, Nick Byrne, described the evening as a success and said he is “definitely going to do something else for Lincoln”.

“He’s such an awesome little boy that needs our help,” he added.

On Sunday, the Celtic Wolves Motorbike Club (CWMC) also held a charity bike rally allowing Lincoln to ride along as the huge procession travelled from Cwmbran to Pontypool and back.

Several clubs attended, including Cwmbran Allstars Scooter Club with a showing of hundreds of bikes raising £200 for the fund.

The event follows the CWMC’s Rockers Vs Mods Scooter Show this month which raised around £600 for the fund. The group also hope to raise more for the Torfaen family.

Lincoln’s mum, Jessica Hope, said she the family are “truly overwhelmed” with the support and gave a “special thanks” to Nick Byrne for organising the ‘Walk’ music event in Pontypool.

Reflecting on the bike rally, she added: “It actually made me feel quite emotional seeing all the bikes ahead of me while I drove Lincoln’s Legs car at the back of the procession. “To see all those people giving up their afternoon for our little boy, especially on Father’s Day, is something I will always remember.”

The appeal has also received the backing of comic Frankie Boyle, who will perform at St David’s Hall, Cardiff, on September 9, alongside comedian Francesca Martinez. All ticket sales will be donated to the appeal.
