THE Grenfell Tower fire disaster in London has prompted Ceredigion County Council to issue reassurances to residents in the area.

While the council does not directly manage any housing stock, some housing improvement schemes managed by the council have included the installation of external wall insulation (cladding). Such schemes have used products that are of a non-combustible, fire retardant nature. This means that the risk of fire ignition and spread is minimised.

Furthermore, the housing associations that operate in the county have confirmed that the same or similar products have been used in schemes they have undertaken. Tai Ceredigion has issued a statement on its Facebook pages to reassure their tenants and wider public of this fact.

Ceredigion does not have any residential buildings that fall within the definition of high rise (above 18 metres) where cladding has been installed. Furthermore, within larger privately rented houses that are in multiple occupation, the council carries out regular inspections to ensure that suitable fire precautions and management arrangements are in place.

It will continue to monitor and respond to details that emerge from the investigations into the cause of the fire at Grenfell Tower and implement any necessary measures. Any technical insights will be shared and will drive local decisions and any new regulations will be acted upon.
