KEEPING the kids busy over the Summer break can be a difficult task with such a huge variety of activities, museums and attractions leaving families spoilt for choice.

Thankfully, many cinemas, trampoline parks and interactive science attractions have sought to capitalise this summer, offering special deals and events.

Trampoline parks

One fitness trend that has bounced into the public consciousness is the trampoline park model – mixing trampoline-based fitness with family-friendly fun.

With the indoor trampoline park industry booming, there’s no better time than to have a go with several Gwent offerings.

Energi opened at Spytty last year with a 20,000 sq ft site filled with trampolines, a foam pit, climbing walls, basket-ball hoops, dodge-ball arenas and more.

Between July 24 and September 3, the park is offering a ‘Summer Pass’ with unlimited access to family and open jump sessions between for around £49.95.

If you buy more than one pass, you can buy a second for £39.95. Applicants will need to visit Energi’s website and fill out an application form and provide a 30mm by 30mm photo.

Over the same period, kids can also eat free at the centre on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays after 3pm with the purchase of every full-priced jump session.

This promotion is available for jumpers aged five to 16 and will include a choice of hamburger, cheeseburger, jumbo hot dog, veggie nuggets or mini pizza served with a Polar Krush

The centre’s summer programme will also include a ‘Mini Monkeys’ sessions between Monday and Friday, 10am to 11am allowing toddlers to jump to tunes from Peppa Pig to Gangnam Style.

Sessions are priced at £4.95 per child and one parent or guardian can accompany the child for free.

Family sessions are priced at £7.95 and take place Monday to Friday, (11am to 12pm and 4pm to 5pm) and Saturday and Sunday, (9am to 10am and 10am to 11am).

Energi Jump sessions are suitable for jumpers aged five and over and are priced at £9.75 per session or £14.95 for a ‘Climb Combo’ – access to the centre’s climbing wall.

Energi Friendly sessions also cater to individuals with additional needs and take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5pm-6pm at £5.95 per session.

Bouncers will also need to purchase safety grip socks for £1.65.

Cwmbran’s recently-opened Limitless Trampoline Park is priced at £8.50 per hour for all ages including reusable safety grip socks (£2).

On July 21, the centre will host an ‘End of School Blowout’ disco event between 6pm and 9pm offering £13.50 for a two-hour session.

There will also be a summer holiday ‘Jump Programme’ running for six weeks on Wednesdays from 4pm to 6.30pm between July 24 and August 28.

Limitless has partnered with AIM Sports Academy to deliver the action packed parkour and trampoline programme, which aims to build skills in a fun, engaging environment.

The Jump Programme is priced at £15 for one session, £42 for three sessions or £82 for six sessions and will include classes and free squash and a £1 discount off all childrens’ meals.

Techniquest

The Techniquest science museum, in Cardiff, is the UK’s longest-established science centre, with a mission to embed science in Welsh culture through interactive activities.

During the holidays, there will be several events including science theatre show ‘Air-Mazing’ taking place all day and exploring the subject of gases with science demonstrations.

Other events include ‘Star Stories’ – an exploration of Ancient Greek Legends in the centre’s digital planetarium – and Star Stories, which explores the mysteries of space and constellations.

All three of these shows will take place from July 22 to September 3.

During the Summer holidays, the centre will be open between 10am and 5pm, seven days a week and children aged three or under can enter for free.

Standard prices include £7.20 per adult, £5.90 per child (aged four to 15) and concessions or £5.90 are available for seniors, disabled visitors and students.

Family tickets are priced at £25 – up to five persons, max two adults – and after 3pm, a single adult and child can gain £3 concession entry.

This offer is not available for Toddler Days, After Hours or any other special events.

Roller skating

TJ’s Roller Skating Ltd in Newport will be putting on several events across Gwent venues during the summer holidays.

In July, sessions take place at Cwmbran Stadium (11am to 1pm) on July 31 and ‘Crazy Skate’ events will be held at Risca Leisure Centre between 7.15pm – 8.45pm on Fridays from July 7 to August 25.

As the Summer holidays draw to a close, sessions will take place at Cwmbran Stadium on Mondays, August 7, 14 and 21 and at Newport Active Living Centre on Wednesdays until August 30.

Bowling

Superbowl UK, based at Friars Walk, in Newport, offers 10-pin bowling for players of all ability levels with 12 lanes.

Games are £5.50 per adult (16 plus), £4.50 per junior (under 16) and concessions of £3 are available for disabled and senior citizens.

The ‘Kidz for Quids’ promotion — available 9am to 10am every day, allows children to bowl for £1 per game, with adult prices dropping to £2 per game.

The Bowling & Laser Quest Saver includes two games of bowling or laser quest for just £4.99 and is available Monday to Wednesday, 6pm till close and Sunday from 8pm till close.

The newly-opened Bowlplex in Cwmbran is £4.99 per game, £6.49 for adults and £20.79 for a family ticket – two adults and two juniors or one adult and three juniors.

Riverfront, Newport

Screenings will generally include a morning kids film, priced at £2.50 and an afternoon blockbuster, £4, Monday to Saturday.

July 24 to July 27 the morning film will be Smurfs: The Lost Village (11am /1.30pm) and the afternoon film will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, 4pm.

Friday, July 28 to Thursday, August 3, the films will change to Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul (11am/1.30pm) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge (4pm / 6.30pm)

Friday, August 4 and Thursday, August 10, both films will be charged at £4 and including Despicable Me 3 (11am / 1.30pm) and Wonder Woman (4pm).

Friday, August 11 to Thursday August 17, will see screenings of Cars 3 (11am, 1.30pm and 4pm) and Transformers: The Last Knight at 6.30pm.

August 11 and 12, Transformers: The Last Knight will be priced at £4 but will drop to £2.50 until August 17.

August 18 to August 24, The Emoji Movie (11am/1.30pm) and Spider Man: Homecoming (4pm), both priced at £4.

From July 25 between 9.30am and 3pm, the Tuesday Film Club will allow parents to leave kids to watch a film, have a lunch box and enjoy an activity

These sessions are aimed at children aged between six and 12, are priced at £18 and are fully supervised.

Cineworld

Families looking elsewhere for their cinema experiences should also give the recently-reopened Brynmawr’s Market Hall Cinema.

The 123-year-old picturehouse – known as Wales’ oldest cinema – charges £3.30 per child, senior and student and £4.90 for adults.

On ‘Tai Calon Tuesday’ all seats are priced at £3.50 and on Wednesday, there is a ‘two for one’ deal on adult tickets.
