A GREAT gran celebrated her 101st birthday this month surrounded by her family, friends and two mayors.
Edith Gould, a resident of Arthur Jenkins Care Home in Blaenavon, celebrated the milestone on Tuesday at an event organised by staff at the Hafod Care-run home.
The bash included a buffet, live entertainment and a birthday cake with guests including Edith’s son, daughter and grandchildren.
Mayor of Torfaen, Cllr Jessica Powell and Mayor of Blaenavon, Cllr Phyllis Roberts, also attended to show their support.
Edith was born and raised in the British in Talywain and worked as a cleaner at British Nylon Spinners in Pontypool.
She married Thomas Elijah in 1934 and shared a happy 63 years with him before he died in 1997. They had four children and in later years, they moved to the Garndiffaith area.
Reflecting on her life, she said: “I have had a good life and good children and they never cause me any trouble.
“I didn’t think I would reach 101 but I’m still here and in good health for my age. I’m very lucky”.
