STUDENTS at a Monmouthshire secondary school who do not adhere to the new uniform code will risk being sent home, according to the deputy head teacher.

The school will be adopting an amended uniform ahead of its move to a new building in 2018, and will be using the supplier Trutex.

In a letter to parents, Andy Williams said Monmouth Comprehensive School’s (MCS) new uniform would help the school end the “inconsistency” of changing styles.

“The school simply cannot keep pace with brand and style changes that will add to inconsistency in a school with over 1500 students,” he said.

“Sending students home – in line with Welsh Government Guidance – is, of course, our last resort. We will always look for suitable ways to resolve a situation.”

The cost of the new uniform has been projected as £93 for girls – a contemporary jacket at £43, an £8 tie, a £16 skirt and a twin pack of blouses at £26. Meanwhile for boys, the new uniform will cost £97 with the only differences being a twin pack of shirts costing £26 and trousers for £20.

Monmouthshire County Council officer Will McLean said: “The design of school uniforms and the rules which apply to them are determined by school governing bodies.”
