FAMILY and friends will remember and pay tribute to a popular opera singer who died after collapsing at a town council meeting.

A day of celebration will be held in memory of Karl Daymond, 52, with music and speeches to be made in tribute to the Chepstow opera singer. People are also invited to bring picnics to join the celebration of Mr Daymond’s life at the event in Castleford Hill, Chepstow, on Sunday, September 10 from 11am to 3pm.

Plans are also being made for a procession through Chepstow, with more information expected to be released in the coming days.

Friends and family have set up a fundraising page to raise money for The Kaleidoscope Trust who work to uphold the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people internationally.

The page states: “Karl was a passionate advocate for fairness, freedom and equality his whole life.

“The LGBT community was a group close to Karl’s heart.

"Karl’s close family, including his husband Ian, decided that fundraising for this cause would reflect Karl’s values perfectly.

“Karl’s death has evoked shock and heartbreak for so many people in his community, his home town of Chepstow, the music and theatre industry and of anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

“Ian and Karl’s family have received an overwhelming response of love and support from so many people who knew Karl.”
