A TORFAEN-based housing association has received a £5,000 grant to help spread the word of smart meters, which aim to bring an end to estimated billing.

Melin Homes’ Being Greener team, working with Care and Repair Monmouthshire and Torfaen, is targeting people aged over 65 and with no internet access.

Paula Kennedy, the chief executive of Melin Homes, said: “We are very pleased to be a partner of choice, working with Smart Energy GB.

“We have excellent links in the communities we will be working, and are looking forward to our Being Greener team sharing their energy saving knowledge whilst raising the awareness of smart meters.”

Sacha Deshmukh, Smart Energy GB’s chief executive, said: “We want to make sure even more older people can benefit from smart meters in their home.

“We know we can’t do this job alone. We rely on expert partners to share information in ways that work for people who may need additional support to understand how to get and use a smart meter.”
