VIKINGS and Tudor knights roamed the fields surrounding Caldicot Castle as a medieval festival returned for another year.

Hundreds of re-enactors turned the clock back to the Middle Ages to engage in fearsome historical skirmishes and battles throughout the weekend.

A historically accurate Viking camp dominated the castle grounds as the invading forces celebrated the aftermath of a raid on the River Severn.

Younger invaders also enjoyed a small ‘Kiddy Vike’ area to hone their skills with foam weapons.

Elsewhere, horsemen were pitted head-to-head as they jousted on the tilt.

Visitors were also able to connect with authentic music and snapshots of daily life from the era.

There was even the chance to pick up some archery skills, courtesy of Castle Archers.
