TORFAEN will fall silent on the weekend with a number of parades and services for Remembrance Sunday.

Services of remembrance will also occur on Sunday, November 12 at churches and village halls as well as one due to happen on an Abersychan mountain.

Although the service will start at 11am, the Garn Wen mountain service will meet at 9.30am at the Waterworks Lane Bridge in order to walk up to the stone commemorating the Blenheim Bomber crash on the mountain in 1940.

A wreath will be laid and a two minute silence will be observed in the service led by Ken Clark.

Services will also take place at 10.30am in Panteg’s St Hilda’s Church, conducted by the Reverend Anne Golledge, before a wreath laying ceremony in Panteg Cemetery at 11.45am.

There will be a 10.30am service at the Crane Street Baptist Church in Pontypool and an 11am mass at Pontypool’s St Albans RC Church.

Due to renovation at St Cadoc’s Church in Trevethin, the Pontnewynydd service has been moved to the Crane Street Baptist Church.

The final service of the day will take place at the Henllys Village hall at 3pm.

Parades will be taking place in Blaenavon, Cwmbran, New Inn, Pontnewydd and Pontypool, while a number of road closures will be in effect between 10am and 1pm.

The New Inn parade will start at 10am, assembling at St Mary’s Church in The Highway before setting off at 10.10am and the service starting at 10.30am.

In Pontnewydd, the parade will assemble at 10.15am,before setting off at 10.30am from the British Legion Club on Station Road, towards the cenotaph, where a two-minute silence will occur at 11am.

The Cwmbran parade will congregate on Clomendy Road at 10.10am, moving along Commercial Street and Victoria Street to the War Memorial Clock, before an 11am service and wreath laying.

The Blaenavon parade will meet at the Top Car Park at 10.40am, marching along Broad Street and Ivor Street to the cenotaph,for a service and wreath laying.

At 11am, St Peter’s Church will host another service.

The final parade to set off will be at 11.45am in Pontypool, assembling in Commercial Street.

It will move to the Memorial Gates for service and wreath laying at 12pm and return via Clarence Roundabout.
