FUNERAL details for a well-known supermarket worker and devoted rugby man have been released.

Reg Buttress had worked for Cwmbran’s Sainsbury’s store since 1981.

Although he took a six-week ‘break’ when he retired in 1988, he got bored and asked to go back.

He is thought to have been one of Britain’s oldest supermarket workers.

As previously reported, he said his love for meeting people was his motivation to continue working well beyond retirement age, with a goal to “get out and enjoy life”.

His death on November 20, shortly after retiring at 94, prompted tributes from family and customers paying tribute to his early life, career and welcoming character.

Pontypool District Rugby Union - of which Mr Buttress was president since 2000 - also credited his love for and involvement in local rugby.

A notice has described him as "loved and sadly missed by all family and friends" and his funeral will take place on Wednesday, December 6.

It will start with a service at 12pm at the Salvation Army Mission Hall in Wesley Street, Old Cwmbran and then, the Gwent Crematorium.

Only family flowers are requested and donations will be collected for the British Lung Foundation.
