STAFF from a Torfaen coach company have raised nearly £2,000 for a cancer charity after braving the shave.

On February 2, drivers from Pontypool firm Jenson Travel gathered at the Bat and Ball Cricket Club to raise funds for Velindre Cancer Centre.

The event was part of the Velindre campaign to ‘Wear Red for Wales’ - marking the Welsh rugby teams Six Nations opener against Scotland.

Drivers David Robinson, Gwyn Jenkins and Ryan Jenkins had their hair shaved while Sharon Jones raised money for Velindre and also donated her long locks to the Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides real hair wigs to children and young adults who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

The event was also in support of Jenson Travel staff member, Carol - who is undergoing treatment at the Velindre Cancer Centre - with help from hairdressers Charlotte Hanson and Nicola Jenkins.

Snatchwood councillor, Gwyn Jenkins, added: “Thanks to all who contributed and thanks to the Bat and Ball for allowing this to take place, we have now raised nearly £2000 for Velindre.”

Money raised allows Velindre to support projects from research and specialist equipment to nurses and staff training.
