UPDATE:
February 19, 5.20pm
Outlets in Newport and Pontypool are now open, but the Cwmbran KFC restaurant remained closed.
A KFC spokeswoman said: “We’ve set up a page on our website so our fans can check where their nearest open restaurant is, and we’re updating this as regularly as we can.
“Our teams are working flat out all hours to get the rest back up and running as soon as possible, but it’s too early to say how long it will take to clear the backlog.”
The company said its policy menat staff were re-deployed on to alternative tasks or to other restaurants that remained open. Team members were also encouraged to take holiday where possible, although staff were not forced to take leave.
Non-salaried team members on short-term contracts will be paid the average hours worked per day over the last 12 weeks, while salaried employees will be paid as normal.
The spokeswoman added that franchisees will be seeking their own independent advice, but that the company is encouraging them to adopt KFC’s policies on closed restaurants.
