A PROJECT which aims to provide funding and support for elite sport performers and future talent from Torfaen has opened up to a new wave of applications.

The Talent Development Scheme, an initiative of Torfaen Sports Development, offers encouragement and help to the borough’s top sporting talent, at both amateur and professional levels.

It allows for those performing at national sporting level free access at designated off-peak times to leisure and sports facilities for personal training and development.

Since its inception in Torfaen, more than 600 athletes have registered on the scheme and it has supported the careers of Commonwealth Games champions, Olympians and Paralympians.

The scheme is open to sportsmen and sportswomen who reside in Torfaen and fit into one of four categories: world class performer; Elite Cymru; member of a squad or national team on a Sport Wales list or ranked among top five in Wales or top 10 nationally in their discipline’s age group.

The closing date for the next round of applications is Tuesday, March 27.
