JACK Gould was born on the Tranch and lived all his life in Pontypool, running a shop on Upper Crane Street, next to the Globe Hotel. ‘J Gould’s’ was a tobacconists and confectioners but also sold a variety of gifts, rugs, china and watches.
He was also a talented ballroom dancer who became a dance teacher and a competition dance judge.
