THE community got the chance to meet their local police officers at a fun event today.

Cwmbran police had planned to have an community day at their station on Tudor Road, however the stormy weather meant the event was moved to the Cwmbran Stadium, thanks to Torfaen Leisure Trust who offered their hall for free.

Inspector Phil O'Connell was one of the officers who volunteered to get a soaking in the stocks.

"It was great to see so many people," he said, "and great to see the kids with smiles on their faces.

"I think there was a queue out the door waiting to soak me."

PC Kim Meyrick from the Cwmbran neighbourhood team was one of the organisers of the event. She said: "It has been a brilliant day.

"We wanted to do something for the community so they could meet their local neighbourhood team and tell us what issues they have in their area in a fun environment."

Margaret Rennocks from Pontypool was at the open day with her family.

"It is great to see the services come together in an event for the community," she said.

"There is lots going on."

Luke Lewis, 14, from Cwmbran was one of the Torfaen Sea Cadets who had a stand at the event

"We are showing the public what they can do and how they can join.

"I have been a member for three years and I love it."
