TWO GWENT restaurants have retained their Michelin star status for another year.

The Whitebrook Restaurant with Rooms has retained its Michelin star for the fifth year running, it was announced in the Michelin Guide to the UK & Ireland 2019.

The Walnut Tree Inn in Llanddewi Skirrid also retained their Michelin star this year.

The awards were held last night, and 155 restaurants in Great Britain and Ireland given a prestigious star.

The Whitebrook’s chef Chris Harrod, who is currently competing in televised BBC2 chef competition, Great British Menu and will appear in the finals from October 8 said: “I’m delighted by the news we’ve retained our star, especially as we celebrate the Whitebrook's fifth birthday on October 2. Myself and the team work long and tiring hours so to be recognised for that by Michelin is a always a huge boost. I’m also very grateful to the loyal customers who have supported my wife and I since we opened in 2013.”

Last month The Whitebrook received further recognition as one of Top 50 UK Restaurants in the country in the The Good Food Guide by Waitrose & Partners with an excellent score of 7/10 demonstrating a ‘high level of ambition and individuality’ and ‘attention to the smallest detail’ as well as showcasing ‘accurate and vibrant dishes’
