MORE than 200 people will be taking the plunge in a swimathon in memory of Devauden teenager Tom Walker, who died earlier this year.
The event is part of a major initiative to raise £100,000 towards a dedicated fund in Tom’s name to pay for a PhD research project into leukaemia.
Tom’s 12-year-old sister Holly is organising a swimathon, called Swim for Tom, on Sunday, January 6, 2019.
The event registration closes on Saturday (December 1) and swimmers will be notified of their slots next week.
The swimathon will take place in the pool at Monmouth School for Girls and aims to cover a distance of 430km – equivalent to the length of the River Wye and back – and a total of 17,200 lengths.
