PUPILS at Haberdashers' Monmouth Schools got into the festive spirit before the end of term with a series of Christmas events.

Lovely singing and the glow of candles lit up St Mary’s Priory Church for a Christingle service held by Monmouth School Girls’ Prep.

Pupils sang Rutter’s Star Carol, featuring soloist Hannah Moore, was sung in candlelight during the traditional festive celebration.

Soloists Eloise Walker and Emily Walker sparkled in their performances of Once in Royal David’s City and The Little Road to Bethlehem, respectively.

The Years 5 and 6 choir performed Sing with Me, Ding Dong Merrily on High, and Shepherd’s Pipe Carol, featuring soloist Isla Davies.

The Years 3 and 4 choir sang Rise up, Shepherd, and Follow and Time of Year, while pupils Lauren Powell, Lara Crewe-Read, Imogen Cooke, Dilys Murcott, and head girl Hallie Lewis, all read lessons.

A collection at the service was made on behalf of Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice, The Children’s Society, and Music for Life.

Pupils and staff at the schools also donned festive attire in support of Christmas Jumper Day.

A morning of music, drama and house choirs rounded off the term at Monmouth School for Girls and Monmouth School Girls’ Prep.

The traditional Charities Morning took place on Wednesday, December 12 – the schools’ last day of term – and helped to raise money for Save the Children.
