Alick Grant, goalkeeper - signed for Aldershot in 1938 after spells at Sheffield United and Bury. After the end of the Second World War, signed for Leicester then Derby, where he dislocated an elbow in his debut, before coming to Newport in October 1948, making 20 appearances including the FA Cup ties.

Lewis Bradford, full back - began his football career at Preston North End before the war intervened. Afterwards he played for Bradford City before coming to Newport for the 1948/49 season. He made 24 appearances before moved to non-league Trowbridge Town.

Doug Hayward, full back - began his career at Huddersfield Town before the war intervened, and then played once for Bristol Rovers in 1946 before moving to Newport. He stayed for 10 years, making 260 appearances and scoring 11 goals before moving to Bath City.

Guido 'George' Roffi, inside forward - signed for Newport County in 1947 and scored 27 goals in more than 100 appearances across four years.

Ray Wilcox, centre half - Captain in 1948/49, Wilcox made 546 appearances for County in all competitions, beginning a 31-year association with the club in 1939. After retiring from playing in 1960, he became the club's trainer for ten years.

Danny Newall, wing half - Newport-born, he came through County's youth team and made his debut in 1938. Either side of the war, he played 236 time for County, scoring four goals.

Harold Williams, outside right - rejected by Swansea Town, he played for Belfast Celtic and Cliftonville in Northern Ireland during the war. He played 85 times for County either side of a successful eight-year spell at Leeds where he supplied many a cross onto the head of the great John Charles. Capped four times by Wales, he ended his career with another Yorkshire side, Bradford Park Avenue.

Len Comley, inside forward - began his career a Swansea Town after the Second World War, but moved to County in October 1948, playing 76 times and scoring 29 goals. He then played for Scunthorpe United.

Reg Parker, centre forward - after two games for Cardiff City in 1947/48, he came to Newport and established a club record 99 goals, in 201 games. He retired in 1954.

Eddie Carr, centre forward - began at Arsenal in the mid-30s and scored seven goals in 11 matches to help the Gunners win the First Division title in 1937/38. After working in a pit during the war, he played for Huddersfield Town before joining County in 1946. He scored 48 goals for the club, in 98 matches.

Bobby Harper, outside left - the Scot began his career at Ayr United in 1945, progressing to Huddersfield Town the following year, then moving to County, scoring 12 goals in 114 matches over four years, before moving to Southend United.
