A COMMUNITY supporter officer (PCSO) in Abergavenny has said Gwent Police will begin issuing £100 fines and three licence points to drivers who park their cars on zig-zag lines outside Gilwern Primary School.
PCSO Amanda Yung said representatives of the school had discussed with parents their concerns about cars being parked outside the school during drop-off and pick-up times.
The police are also concerned about the speed some parents drive to the school when running late, PCSO added.
The road is a single carriageway, one-way route with houses on one side and the school on the other. It is also a local bus route for commercial and school transport.
PCSO Yung said the police and school's approach had so far been to try and educate parents with a reminder in school newsletters and words of advice during police patrols, but going forward fixed fines and penalties would be issued for parking on the zig-zag lines.
She added there was parking available at the community centre and along Common Road.
