THE popular Big Event will go ahead this year following the decision from Cwmbran Community Council to take a leading role in its organisation and funding.

There had been doubts over the future of the event, following the withdrawal of funds by Torfaen County Borough Council.

Chairman of the Community Council, councillor Peter Cathcart, said: "We are delighted to be able to deliver this significant community event which is enjoyed by so many.

"The overall look and feel of the event will be the same as previous years with plenty of opportunities for the community to come together, share information and, most importantly, have fun."

It is set to take place on Saturday, June 8.

The move has also been welcomed elsewhere in the locality, as the Community Council works with its partners to put plans in place.
