NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn praised his players for their efforts against Tranmere Rovers, but admitted that the 0-0 draw makes Tuesday’s home clash with Swindon Town and even bigger game.
County made most of the running at Rodney Parade and they thought they had claimed a precious three points when Joss Labadie netted two minutes from time, only to be denied by the offside flag.
Fifth-placed Tranmere hit the woodwork twice but created little else and neither side did enough to win the game – the only contest in the top four divisions in England not to produce a goal.
The point sees the Exiles slip to 13th in the League Two table but they remain six points below the play-off positions with a game in hand.
“Will a point be enough to help us? I don't know, I don't have a crystal ball,” said Flynn after the match.
“But it was a good, solid performance from the boys.
“Swindon is a massive game; we need the three points but it will be really tough.
“I am hoping that we keep playing well and we will see where it takes us.”
