A CAR'S engine was ripped out and "propelled into the opposite lanes" on the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge this morning.

Gwent Police officers tweeted the following photographs of the incident, which they described as "carnage".

A total of three lanes were closed on the bridge this morning, affecting both carriageways, because of debris scattered across the road.

The road was re-opened at around 9am.
