A WOMAN who's aiming to trek the entire coast of the United Kingdom visiting every RNLI station over two years is passing through Gwent.

Beth Wickes, who is attempting the mammoth trek solo to raise money for three charities, set off from Tower RNLI on the River Thames in the capital on October 3 last year.

It took her just 10 weeks to trudge the 470 miles through Kent, East Sussex, Portsmouth and Southampton before crossing to the Isle of Wight.

After an understandable break in December, Ms Wickes finished the Dorset leg and cross into Devon and Cornwall and through Somerset in March.

Arriving in Newport, Ms Wickes said: "What struck me straight away was how well signposted and maintained the Wales Coastal Path is, with easy to see waymarkers and the beautiful pavement plaques, which is much appreciated and not always the case with some of the paths I've walked unfortunately. I'm excited to continue my journey along the stunning Welsh coastline."

The walk is expected to take around two years to finish, although she is making sure to take regular rest days to ensure she is fit enough, both physically and mentally, to complete her adventure.

She’s raising money for the Association of Lowland Search, Mountain Rescue England and Wales and Rescue and the RNLI.

Ms Wickes is aiming to raise £60,000 for the three charities.

You can follow her trek through her blog and social media.

A Facebook group full of well-wishers has been offering their support , and even putting her up overnight on stretches of the walk.
