WEEKEND EVENTS: In the Pink walk


THE seventh annual Brecon-Monmouth Canal Walk takes place this Sunday, and there has been a terrific response from walkers from all over Wales.

Already over 1,100 walkers have registered to take part in this most picturesque of walks which has stunning views of the Beacons. There will be entertainment all the way with bands and groups at pubs and inns along the routes supporting and encouraging the hundreds of walkers.

There are several walks available to suit all abilities: On the North route there is a 12-mile walk starting from Theatre Brynich, Canal Basin and a five mile walk starting at Henderson Hall, Talybont Village.

The South route has a 20-mile walk which starts at the Visitor Centre at Goytre Wharf, and the 10-mile walk begins at the Bridgend Inn, Govlin at 2pm. All routes finish at the Llangynidr Community Centre - and then the fun really begins. There will be an end of Walk Music Festival Party, which starts at 3pm and goes on until 10pm, featuring a wide range of food, drink and entertainment for people of all ages.

Bands playing include Serpentine Parade, Little Miss S, 6-Ton Budgie, D. J. Steve, Corrupt Contraband, Monkey and Fourth Street Traffic.

Entrance to the Party is free for walkers and children under-15, otherwise it is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions In the Pink's six previous walks have raised in excess of £500,000 for Velindre Cancer Centre.

Founder Liz Sullivan said: "The six previous canal walks in Brecon have been great fun and fantastic fundraisers. Judging by the overwhelming response to this year's Canal walk it will be a Magnificent Seventh."
