Dragons invade border castle

WHEN Goodrich Castle was built to defend against invaders from Wales, little did they expect that one day they would have dragons lurking around the grounds.

But that is what visitors will find over the May half term holiday as the English Heritage site hosts Dragon Trails. Dragon hunters from throughout the kingdom are being sought to hunt for a clan of dragons known to be hiding throughout the historic castle ruins, near Monmouth.

Thankfully, they are fairly small beasts, so can be approached without fear by even the youngest hunters, but at only about 30cm tall, they are very good at hiding.

"Goodrich is an amazing castle, with so many nooks and crannies for people to explore that the dragon trail can be quite challenging, but it is a great way to get children to look around every corner" says visitor operations manager, Olivia Iles.

"Needless to say, after such a hard task, there will be a small prize for everyone who completes the trail."

The Dragon Trail runs daily from Saturday, May 24 May to Sunday, June 1.The hunt runs from 10am - 5pm each day, and is free with entry into Goodrich Castle.

Admission is £5 for adults, £4 for concessions, £2.50 for children or £12.50 for a family of two adults and up to three children).

Entry is free for English Heritage members.
