LABOUR retained control of Torfaen Council last night, thanks to three Plaid members and two independents who will each get £18,000 a year for their support.
Cllr Bob Wellington and his fellow Labour council members wooed the backing of Plaid's Jeff Rees, Maria Graham and Fiona Cross; plus independents Peter Cathcart and Alastair Cunningham.
That enabled Labour to retain their majority - and each was rewarded with a seat on scrunity committees, which pays £18,000.
Blaenavon Cllr Stuart Evans, heading an opposition coalition of independents, Tories, People's Voice and Liberal Democrats, was "disappointed" with the result.
