AN ABERGAVENNY volunteer has received a hero's thanks in Parliament for his tireless work with local charities.
Trevor Turner, who received an MBE for charitable services to the community in 2002, was nominated as a volunteer hero by Monmouth MP David Davies. He was honoured, along with other volunteers from across the UK, at the annual MP Heroes Tea Party at the House of Commons.
The event, now in its eighth consecutive year, is organised by the Experience Corps and recognises older volunteers' achievements and contributions in their communities. During the reception, Mr Turner was presented with a special certificate by his MP.
"I can't think of a better person to receive this honour than Trevor," said Mr Davies.
"He has made an extraordinary contribution to the local community over the past 25 years, raising over £100,000 for charities including Breast Test Wales and Latch.
"Trevor is one of Abergavenny's all time heroes and is certainly my hero."
