Robber absconds from prison

CHRISTOPHER John Akers, 22, absconded from Prescoed Prison sometime between 7.30pm and 10pm last night.

He was convicted of robbery at Cardiff Crown Court in September 2005. He is not a registered sex offender.

He is described as 5'10" tall, of a stocky build with blue eyes and short brown hair. He has two tattoos, one on his right lower leg and one on the knuckles of his right hand.

It is believed there may be a potential risk due to the fact that he is no longer in the custody of the prison service. It is believed he may be in the Barry area where he has contacts.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: "Gwent Police has activated its operational plan with the aim of locating him and the prison is co-operating fully with us.

"Members of the public are advised not to approach Christopher Akers but to instead call police if they have any information regarding his whereabouts on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
