TWO CWMBRAN fitness instructors who will trek through the Grand Canyon for charity organised a sponsored cycle to add to their fundraising total.
Liz Filer and Rowena Kitson, both 27, work at Esporta fitness centre in Cwmbran and with the help of staff and members they kept an exercise bike going for 12 hours to raise money for St Anne’s Hospice. The challenge was undertaken on a Keiser Spin bike and collectively they rode 387 kilometres by powering through half-hour slots.
In September the fitness fanatics will spend eight days hiking 18km a day through extreme heat and altitude in a bid to raise £10,000 for the hospice.
Their latest cycle challenge will add to that total – Ms Filer said the event raised at least £300. They were competing against Gloucester’s Esporta club to see who could travel the furthest in 12 hours and lost after their rivals managed 429km.
