CROWDS gathered in Caldicot town centre last Friday in anticipation of the annual Christmas Light Switch-On.

Organised by the town council, the event began at 10am with a traditional street market and a funfair.

Live entertainment was provided by the Severn Tunnel Band, CMTS, Caldicot Male Voice Choir and street dancers. Throughout the day over 2,500 people attended with 307 children visiting Santa in his grotto set up in the Scout Hut.

The official switch-on took place at 6pm with town mayor, Cllr Maria Stevens, lighting the tree and Jessica Morden MP and John Griffiths AM reading their festive speech.

Caldicot Cllr Dave Evans said: "It was a great day and we were very pleased with the turnout. Unfortunately the weather wasn't too good later in the day but that didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirits. We would like to thank Wilkinsons, Waitrose and all the shops who have helped support the event."
