A TALENTED gymnast has launched her own cheerleading club for youngsters in Caldicot after taking it up herself at university.

Danielle Pike, 20, has trained in gymnastics since she was only five years old. At the age of 15 she was already a qualified coach.

Now studying at the University of Glamorgan she has added cheerleading to her love of dance and gymnastics.

And realising how it is growing in popularity wanted to provide it in her home town of Caldicot.

She said: "It was after joining the cheerleading group at uni and starting to take part in competitions that I realised how popular it was becoming.

"I have to say I have become a little obsessed with it because it's just so fun and motivating.

"I really love it and wanted to set something up in Caldicot to give other young people the opportunity to get into cheerleading."

The psychology student added: "My aim once the classes have become more established is to have a competitive team. I have already had t-shirts and logos made and we will be the Galaxy Cheerleaders.

Ms Pike recently qualified as a ACCA Cheerleading instructor and has launched her new classes in Caldicot's Wye's Up Gym at the Severn View Industrial Estate on Sunday mornings.

A class for 6-11 year olds runs from 9-10am, and 11-18 year olds from 10-11am. No experience needed. Wear appropriate sportwear and trainers. For more information contact Ms Pike on 0786 68867
