Abergavenny pupils' cake day for Help for Heroes

CHILDREN at an Abergavenny school held a tea party in aid of Help for Heroes.
Year four pupils at Gilwern Primary School helped decorate the hall with bunting and made dozens of cakes ranging from chocolate to carrot cake and doughnuts to sell at stalls in the school hall.
Deputy head teacher, Sue Miles said as well as the school’s pupils, children from the local nursery, governors, staff, parents and two representatives from Help for Heroes enjoyed the Tuesday afternoon tea.
“The children had to organise an event for charity as part of their religious education curriculum and choose to hold an afternoon tea,” said Mrs Miles.
“They designed the invitations, helped make cakes and worked out how much to sell them for and managed their stalls at the event,” she said.
“It gives them confidence and entrepreneurial skills and they also had a lot of fun doing it.”
Help for Heroes raises money to support members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded while serving their country.
