An Abergavenny family were offered help to save their loved one's large collection of music from landfill.

The family of Ken Hayward, a former President of the South East Wales Brass Band Association and Chairman of the British Federation of Brass Bands, who passed away recently, turned up at Homemakers Community Recycling with a car load of vinyl and tapes.

Rob Davies of Homemakers said, "Having been taught by Mr Hayward at Llanfihangel Crucorney Primary School I took an interest in helping the family save his collection as I knew how much it meant to him.

"Although we do manage to pass on vinyl, there did not seem to be a massive market for brass band music, either online or at our showroom. We then found a brass band museum in Wigan, who was only too grateful for us to send the collection to them which will be displayed to the general public.

Alison Auty, Mr Hayward's daughter, said, "We are so pleased that these items have been saved as my father would want them preserved and pleased that they will continue to bring pleasure to other brass band enthusiasts.

"We are so grateful to the staff of Homemakers for going the extra mile and contacting the museum in Wigan."
