ONE local family business, which has been running for over 60 years, is still going strong to the enjoyment of fish and chip lovers across the county.

Arthur Evans was offered a fish bar in Sebastopol in exchange for his home in 1949. He accepted and the family has never looked back.

The business has thrived under three generations with Arthur's son, Derek, taking over the helm after him. Then his grandson, Jon Page, the most recent owner took over in 1999.

In 2011, Mr Page went one step further and expanded the business by opening Page's Fish and Chip Restaurant and Takeaway in Cwmbran.

Mr Page said: "It's going very well and I'm glad to be continuing a business that my grandfather started.

"The original chip shop in Sebastopol is still going strong. Most of the time though I can be found busy in the kitchen in Cwmbran as the business is going very well."

Before taking over the family business Mr Page enjoyed a 10 year career as a male model in the 1980s and early 1990s, advertising painkillers, milk, chocolate and cereals.

Following this he returned to the family business. His own children, Greg and Ellis, have done shifts in the chippy and restaurant, although Mr Page does not think they will choose to take over the business in the future.

Mr Page added: "The restaurant is a licensed premises, and we can offer family parties, catering up to 100 guests on the first floor.

"We source the best produce and have been perfecting preparing our fish for over 60 years."

The business is also doing it's part for the local community, when it accepted the offer to display photographs taken by a local photography group.

The secretary of Cwmbran Photographic Society, Warren Lewis, said: "Just after the restaurant opened I visited and the walls looked blank, so I took the opportunity to ask if our group could display our work."

Now, the restaurant will display 16 photographs taken by society members on its walls, all sharing a common theme. The theme will change, so every time you pay a visit to the restaurant you can enjoy a different display.

Amateur photographer and society member, Rachel Barclay, said: "I joined six weeks ago. I have always been interested in photography and last year I bought a semi-professional camera.

"I found the society by chance and since joining I have grown in confidence and technical skill. The display in Page's gives a great opportunity to have pictures shown to the public."
