THE EFFORT to raise funds for a boy who was born with a misshapen head has been successful.

Members of the Garndiffaith community joined together to set up the charity, Help in the Community, to raise funds for families who need financial help within the community.

Their original motive was to raise funds for nine-month year old Kurt Parfitt, who was diagnosed with severe right sided plagiocephaly and moderate to severe brachycephaly, and required a corrective helmet.

His mum, Emma Parfitt, and dad, Jason, of Graigddu View, Garndiffaith, had to get a loan to cover the £1,950 needed for the helmet.

People in the local community formed the charity to help the family pay their loan.

The T P Sports and Social Club on Herberts Road organised a fundraising night and two local men, Albert Cox, 63, and Dai Norman, 57, rode 31 miles from Pontypool to Blaenavon, Brynmawr, Abergavenny, Goytre and back raising further funds.

Together this raised £2,145. Money was taken out for Kurt and the remainder will remain in the fund to help other families within the community.

Mrs Parfitt said: "I would like to thank everyone, who donated raffle gifts for the charity night, and to Albert and Dai.

"Something positive has come out of this, as the charity can continue to support the local community."
