CHEPSTOW singer, Hannah Berney, was kicked out of The Voice competition but the rising star is enjoying the attention the contest has brought.

Back in her hometown this week, Miss Berney paid a visit to Chepstow School, Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls and her former school, Wyedean School, to sing to pupils.

Speaking before her Chepstow School performance, she said: "I wanted to sing for you today, as I had a lovely response from Chepstow who supported me."

Accompanied by professional guitarist, Steve Down, Miss Berney performed Kanye West's Gold Digger, Nina Simone's Feeling Good, as well as Justin Timberlake's Cry Me a River, which was the song she sang before being booted off the competition.

Pupils packed into the hall to enjoy the performance before queuing for pictures and signed posters.

On her last day in the competition, the 21-year-old went head to head against four other contestants, and after failing to be saved by the public vote, it was up to her mentor Danny O'Donoghue to choose between Miss Berney and fellow contestant Max Milner. Unfortunately this did not go in Miss Berney's favour and she left the show.

She said: "I went out of the competition doing a song that I love, so I have no regrets, I'm just so lucky to have even made it to the live rounds."

The star in the making is continuing with her dream to perform and is taking up the opportunities that the show has brought her way, as well as working on an album.

She added: "I have been performing gigs locally and there has been a lot of interest following the competition, with little opportunities opening up everywhere.

"It's lovely that people are recognising me. I have been getting a lot of interest when out and about, I'm really enjoying it."

Miss Berney even got the opportunity to perform in front of the Queen last week, as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Her mum, Charlie, said: "I got to watch her performing for the Queen, it was just so unreal. I'm very proud of her and keep saying to everyone look that's my daughter."
