WHILST the country were out in the streets celebrating along with the Queen, a group of friends from Rogiet were heading North to Fort William in the wilds of Scotland to begin a challenge in aid of local charities, Velindre Hospital, Pulmonary Fibrosis Wales and SARA.

Pete Lane, his sons Jon, Paul and Dan, along with good friend Matthew Burton had been training and preparing for months to take on the gruelling three peaks challenge which involves climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales. Once the stop watch had been set, the intrepid mountaineers had to climb and descend all three peaks in less than twenty four hours.

On June 2 at 8.13am the lads set off from the foot of Ben Nevis, waved off by their driver Terry Theobald and from that point on it was a race to the foot of Snowdon.

The next twenty four hours would be a roller coaster ride of bruises, pulled muscles, fatigue and determination.

At 7.30am the next morning, cold, damp and tired, the foot of Snowdon was reached and a huge cheer was mustered in celebration of rising to and beating the challenge. The mountains had been beaten in 23hrs 17mins.

The team would like to thank everyone who has generously sponsored and donated to the cause, without their help the whole challenge wouldn't have been possible.
