Undy pupils get lessons in great outdoors

OUTSIDE LEARNING: Undy Primary School pupils and their head teacher Mark Gunn officially open their forest classroom, built using Parents and Teachers Association funds and donations
PUPILS at Undy Primary School can get involved in outdoor activities whatever the weather thanks to a successful year-long fundraising campaign for a new classroom.
The log cabin-style building, on the school site, cost £7,500 and was paid for by the Parents and Teachers Association and donations.
It will enable pupils from nursery to Year 6 to enjoy lessons through Forest Schools, an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning in woodland areas.
In September 2011, the PTA embarked on a fundraising programme including a Christmas disco and a raffle for the new facility.
They saw their hard work pay off yesterday, as it was declared open for lessons at a special ceremony.
The building will provide cover for activities in the event of wet weather and a place to display pupils’ work.
Head teacher Mark Gunn said: “I think it’s absolutely fantastic. We couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome in such a short amount of time.”
Tracey Channon, who is a member of the PTA said: “We are very proud of the achievement.”
