Row over naming of Tintern road

A ROW has broken out over a controversial decision to re-name a road in Tintern.
The community council is furious after Monmouthshire council changed the name, of Glyn Road, which becomes Glynwood Lane at the divide with Middle Road, to ‘Penterry Lane’ in May.
Residents and councillors claim the road, which was never signposted, has been known as Glyn Road for over 30 years.
Last week Monmouthshire council said that it has taken down the new sign and will now call it ‘Glynwood Lane’.
Monmouthshire council said its original decision arose because of a need to formalise addresses in the area and according to records it is known as Penterry Lane.
Jim Onions, who has lived on Glynwood Lane for 30 years, said: “Without consultation the lane became ‘Penterry Lane’ in May which has no relationship to the immediate location.”
At a meeting of the community council in Tintern Village Hall on Monday councillors agreed to write to Monmouthshire council objecting to the latest road name.
