Cwmbran store event to help fight food poverty
8:50pm Friday 5th October 2012 in News
SAINSBURY’S in Cwmbran will be taking part in the second annual Million Meal Appeal this weekend to help fight food poverty in the UK.
The event will be held on Saturday, October 6, and Sunday, October 7, at more than 900 of the supermarket’s stores.
The nationwide fooddrive is being run in partnership with FareShare, the national charity tackling hunger throughout the UK and will benefit more than 700 charities and projects.
Last year the appeal took place on Saturday, November 26, and was a huge success. Sainsbury’s pledged to match donations from customers, which resulted in Fare Share delivering food for more than 1.2 million meals to the hundreds of charities it supports.
The Cwmbran store alone collected food to provide 2,000 meals.
Customers will be able to choose to donate an item from the Million Meal Appeal shopping list, which consists of long-life products including tinned goods, dried pasta, pasta sauce and rice.
The items are purchased as normal and then placed in the collection box after checkout. Online customers can make a £1 donation until October 9.
