'Talking' Cwmbran husky gets 1000 YouTube hits

HER videos have already received more than 1,000 hits on YouTube, but Milo the talking dog has her eye on Britain’s Got Talent.

The 15-month-old Siberian Husky, who lives with her owner, Darren Stone, 42, in Cwmbran, has got the moves, she can trot like a horse, and go through Darren’s legs, but where so many talent show acts have fallen down before, she also has the voice – she can ‘talk’.

The chatty canine has a limited vocabulary at the moment, but Darren hopes that, given her appetite for learning, and the bits of ham and tennis balls he uses as treats, Milo will soon expand it.

“At the moment she can say ‘I want one’ and ‘hello’ , as well as doing some of the dancing, like trotting like a horse and going through my legs.”

Darren had trained his previous dog, a mongrel called Sky to ‘talk’, but had only done so later on in her life.

When she died he was devastated but his family pooled money together to get him Milo. “I’ve just got a knack for teaching dogs to speak,” laughs Darren.

“I think that makes that bond between us a bit closer,”

he says. “Her company is unbelievable and I think when you see her in the videos you can tell she is really loved.”

Darren says the key to his teaching is acting like a dog, talking in a kind of half growl, and patience.

“She’s got to be in the mood to practice,” he says, “but sometimes when we’re watching TV we just have a chat like two humans. It’s just a bit of fun.”

Darren knows who he would like Milo to try out some of her new phrases on next.

“I think Simon Cowell would love her,” he says “All the dogs they’ve had on Britain’s Got Talent so far have been small so it would be far more impressive with a Husky doing it, I think.

“I’d love to try and teach her a few more moves so if anybody can help me out that would be great.”
